Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. Steven Kalkanis of Henry Ford Health System

Steven Kalkanis, MD, is chair of the department of neurosurgery at Henry Ford Health System in Detroit and medical director of the Henry Ford Cancer Institute.

Dr. Kalkanis specializes in brain and spinal cord tumor surgery, intracranial and stereotactic neurosurgery as well as adult cervical and lumbar spine disease.

He serves as a director of the American Board of Neurological Surgery and began a one-year term as president of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons in October.

Dr. Kalkanis graduated from Harvard University in Boston and joined HFHS after completing his residency at the Harvard — Massachusetts General Hospital program.
