Spine Surgeon Leader to Know: Dr. Scott Leary of Senta Clinic

Scott P. Leary, MD, is a neurosurgeon at the Senta Clinic in San Diego. He previously served as a clinical instructor of neurosurgery for the Los Angeles County Hospital, a level one trauma center. He is a member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons and has an active interest in spine instrumentation. He participated in the first clinical trial for the Charite artificial disc, and currently serves as the principal investigator for three national FDA clinical trials for the treatment of symptomatic degenerative disc disease and spinal stenosis.

Dr. Leary’s clinical interests include spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, spinal trauma, scoliosis, failed spine surgery syndrome, spinal tumors and the evaluation of neck and back pain. He has provides treatment for cervical and thoracic disc herniation, spondylolisthesis and kyphosis. Dr. Leary is also one of the few surgeons in the world to use video-assisted thoracic spine surgery. He has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals, including three articles that were featured on the cover of Neurosurgery.

 

Dr. Leary earned his medical degree at Washington University in St. Louis and completed his residency in neurosurgery at Los Angeles County — University of Southern California Medical Center in Los Angeles. He has also completed a fellowship in stereotactic radiosurgery under Michael Apuzzo, MD, and a complex spine surgery fellowship under John Regan, MD, in Los Angeles.
