Dr. Khurana has won numerous awards, including the Orthopedic Hospital Research Award from the California Orthopedic Association in 2000. He is a board-certified surgeon and has performed over 1,700 spinal surgeries. His clinical interests include minimally invasive and microscopic lumbar and cervical microsurgery, reconstructive spine surgery, cervical disorders, lumbar spinal stenosis, scoliosis and spinal tumors and infections.
“Insurance companies will start requesting outcome data from physicians to support their reimbursement for a variety of increasingly complex procedures — both motion preservation and fusion,” said Dr. Khurana in a Becker’s Spine Review article. “Additionally, insurance companies will scrutinize the increasing use of ASCs for such procedures and the benefits from a patient safety, satisfaction and cost perspective.”
Dr. Khurana earned his medical degree at Stanford (Calif.) University School of Medicine, where he also completed his residency in orthopedic surgery. He completed fellowship training in spinal reconstruction at the Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, in conjunction with the University of Miami/Project to Cure Paralysis.
