Dr. Masson has a professional interest in minimally invasive neurosurgery, microneurosurgical anatomy, cerebrovascular neurosurgery, complex spine surgery, spinal instrumentation, image guided spine surgery, artificial discs and biologics in spinal surgery. He has developed the iMAS technique, a total procedural solution. Dr. Masson’s iMAS technique — which is short for interpedicular minimal access surgery — is used in lumbosacral spinal reconstruction. He is responsible for iMAS procedure education, product development and research for DePuy Synthes Spine.

“Maximum three-dimensional surgical objective with minimal trauma for maximum performance and functionality — that is the goal every spine surgeon should have for his patients,” says Dr. Masson. “Spine surgery should restore quality of life. The more invasive procedures are a part of the problem. It is the less invasive procedures that are facilitating a return to health.”

Dr. Masson earned his medical degree at the University of Florida in Gainesville, where he also completed his neurological surgery residency. He has also completed a fellowship in skull base surgery and neurotology at the House Ear Clinic in Los Angeles.
