Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. Rick Bransford of UW Medicine

Richard J. Bransford, MD, is an assistant professor at the University of Washington in Seattle and the director of the UWSpine Education program. He is also an adjunct professor in the department of neurological surgery with both research and clinical care interests.

He has received honors for an article on a spine blog about posterior C2 instrumentation and won the University of Washington Orthopaedic Residents’ Teaching Award. He was also the Whitecloud Award Nominee at the International Meeting on Advanced Spinal Techniques in 2009 and earned the Harborview CARES for Services Excellence Award.

He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, North American Spine Society and AO North America. He is also a member of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association.

Dr. Bransford earned his medical degree at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and completed his residency at the University of Washington-affiliated Hospitals. His additional training includes a fellowship at Westmead Children’s Hospital.
