Spine Surgeon Leader to Know: Dr. Ram Mudiyam of Hoag Orthopedic Institute

Ram Mudiyam, MD, MBA, is an orthopedic spine surgeon at Hoag Orthopedic Institute in Irvine, Calif., and Pacifica Orthopedics in Huntington Beach, Calif. He is diplomat of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and a member of American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is also vice chairman of the department of surgery at Fountain Valley (Calif.) Regional Hospital.

Dr. Mudiyam specializes in complex reconstructive surgery of the spine including adult and pediatric spinal deformities, degenerative disorders of the cervical and lumbar spine and minimally invasive spinal surgery.

“In summary, the task of choosing a spine practice is complex and should be based on multiple factors including location, reputation of the would be associate/group and support from the practice’s primary hospital,” said Dr. Mudiyam in a Becker’s Spine Review article. “Other factors include family considerations, academic versus private practice, single versus multispecialty groups, density of spine surgeons in that area and patient demographics.”

Dr. Mudiyam earned his medical degree at Bangalore Medical College in India. He completed a residency in orthopedic surgery and a spine fellowship at Rancho Los Amigos Medical Center in Downey, Calif.
