Spine Surgeon Leader to Know: Dr. Patrick F. O’Leary of Hospital for Special Surgery

Patrick F. O’Leary, MD, is the former chief of the spine surgery at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York and currently serves as an associate attending spine surgeon. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a member of the Cervical Spine Research Society, Scoliosis Research Society and North American Spine Society. He has received a lifetime achievement award from the Hospital for Special Surgery.

Dr. O’Leary is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He focuses on the surgical management of disorders of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine as well as complex spine surgery. His clinical interests include cervical spine diseases, disc surgery, herniated disc, spinal disorders, spinal fusion and spinal stenosis. During his career, Dr. O’Leary has treated professional athletes, including players for the New York Mets and New York Knicks.

 

Dr. O’Leary earned his medical degree at University College Cork in Ireland and has completed residencies in general surgery at Roosevelt Hospital and in orthopedics at the Hospital for Special Surgery, both in New York. He has also completed a fellowship in spine surgery at Toronto East General Orthopaedic Hospital in Canada.
