Spine Surgeon Leader to Know: Dr. Merrill White of Tennessee Orthopaedic Clinics

P. Merrill White, III, MD, is a spine surgeon practicing with Tennessee Orthopaedic Clinics in Knoxville. He previously served as an assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, North American Spine Society and Knoxville Orthopedic Society. He serves on the board of councilors of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

“It’s an honor to be elected to the Academy’s Board of Councilors and have the privilege to serve my colleagues,” said Dr. White, according to his website. “I look forward to becoming more closely involved with various issues of importance to the orthopedic community.”

 

Dr. White is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons and has served as president of the Tennessee Orthopaedic Society. In 2012, while he was president, the Tennessee Orthopaedic Society was recognized with the State Orthopaedic Society Achievement Award for its efforts in handling problems facing its membership.

 

Dr. White earned his medical degree at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the Bowman Gray School of Medicine at North Carolina Baptist Hospital. He has completed an adult spine surgery fellowship at Rothman Institute and Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia.
