Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. Matthew Philips of Southcoast Health

Matthew Philips, MD, is a spine surgeon and chief of brain and spine services at New Bedford, Mass.-based Southcoast Health.

He received his medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, Conn., and completed a neurosurgery residency at University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Philips also completed fellowship training in complex and reconstructive spinal surgery.

His special interests include spine tumors, degenerative diseases of the spine and traumatic brain injuries.

Southcoast Health is the first system in Massachusetts to adopt 7D Surgical’s spine system, and Dr. Philips recently completed his 200th spine surgery with it.
