Dr. Spoonamore has won an award for clinical research in 1998 from the Scoliosis Research Society. His research interests include management of deformities of the spine, spinal cord injuries, bone biology and disc replacement surgery.
Dr. Spoonamore is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and he has a professional interest in complex spine disorders, including spine tumors, spine trauma, spinal deformity and pediatric spinal disorders. His clinical interests also include lumbar degenerative disc disease, cervical herniated discs, spinal fractures, scoliosis and degenerative spine conditions.
Dr. Spoonamore earned his medical degree from University of Illinois at Chicago and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. He has also received fellowship training in spinal surgery at USC Medical Center.
