Dr. Mermelstein is board-certified, and he focuses on pediatric scoliosis and deformities, osteoporotic fractures and minimally invasive surgical techniques. His clinical interests also include cervical herniated discs, lumbar degenerative disc disease and lumbar spinal stenosis.
According to the practice’s website, Dr. Mermelstein was the first surgeon on Long Island to perform the Posterolateral Endoscopic Discectomy procedure. He has also lectured at national and international meetings regarding spinal biomechanics and instrumentation.
Dr. Mermelstein earned his medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital in New Haven, Conn., and he has also completed a spine surgery fellowship at University of California, Davis.
