Justin Bundy, MD, of Doctors Hospital in Augusta, Ga., has been a leader in augmented-reality spine surgery.

In February, he performed Georgia’s first augmented reality-assisted spine surgery with Augmedics’ Xvision system. Months later, he debuted the same system for a pediatric patient. He lauded the technology, which superimposes the positioning of surgical tools on the patient’s CT data.

“Because you are using essentially augmented reality, you know the anatomy perfectly,” Dr. Bundy said. “It’s safer and quicker. I would say it probably saved us an hour.”

Dr. Bundy’s clinical interests include cervical spine surgery, scoliosis and spinal stenosis. He received his medical degree and completed his internship at Augusta-based Medical College of Georgia. He also did a spine fellowship at the University of Utah School of Medicine in Salt Lake City.
