Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. Joshua Li, of University of Virginia Health

Joshua Li, MD, PhD, is a spine surgeon and associate professor at University of Virginia Health in Charlottesville.

He has expertise in a variety of spinal procedures, including microscope-assisted cervical artificial disc replacement and complex reconstruction for scoliosis, according to UVA Health’s website. His clinical interests cover spinal deformities, degenerative disorders of the spine, minimally invasive procedures and robot-assisted surgery.

He received his medical degree at Xi’an Medical University in China and got his PhD in bone and mineral research from Xi’an Jiaotong University. He completed his residency and a research fellowship at UVA.

Dr. Li’s research has garnered him 24 awards, including the Kappa Delta Young Investigator Award. In 2019, he received a Best Bedside Manner award by OurHealth Charlottesville, and Shenandoah Valley Magazine gave him an honorable mention in spine surgery.
