Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. Joseph Aferzon of the Connecticut Spine Institute for Minimally Invasive Surgery

Joseph Aferzon, MD, is a neurosurgeon and the founder of the Portland-based Connecticut Spine Institute for Minimally Invasive Surgery. Dr. Aferzon subspecializes in minimally invasive spine surgery.

His career began in the Ukraine and he completed his residency at the University of Connecticut, in Storrs. Dr. Aferzon is an accomplished researcher and he works to invent, design and patent spinal devices. He currently holds 12 patents related to MIS instrumentation.

He has received several honors throughout his career and was named the top neurosurgeon in Connecticut by Connecticut Magazine.

Dr. Aferzon is a member of several professional organizations including the American Academy of Neurological Surgery and the National Association of Spine Surgeons.
