Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. John Shiau of the Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery Institute

John Shiau, MD, is a board-certified neurosurgeon and founder of New York City-based Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery Institute.

Dr. Shiau specializes in minimally invasive spine surgery. He received his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor and underwent minimally invasive and endoscopic neurosurgical fellowship training at Mainz, Germany-based Johannes Gutenberg University Hospital.

Dr. Shiau focuses primarily on outpatient minimally invasive procedures for spine and nerve conditions. His research has been published in several journals, and he is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons and North American Spine Society, among other professional organizations. 

In his spare time, Dr. Shiau enjoys athletics. He is a certified Professional Association of Diving Instructors scuba diver and has completed over 1,000 dives across the globe.
