Dr. Finkenberg has authored several textbook chapters and published a number of articles in leading peer review journals. He is the associate editor for The Spine Journal, the official journal of the North American Spine Society. He has a professional interest in cervical degenerative disc and facet arthritis, coccydynia, disc herniations, lumbar spinal stenosis, osteoporotic compression fractures and scoliosis. He also serves on the board of directors for Foundation for Orthopedic Spine Research in Boston.
“I believe the spine leaders in the future will need to be intimately involved with understanding the governmental changes taking place in our healthcare system and then be excellent communicators with patients and colleagues to help them navigate through the major changes,” said Dr. Finkenberg in a Becker’s Spine Review article. “Good leaders are great listeners, but the exceptional ones will assimilate the information and then take action that is both balanced and comprehensive. Physicians need to remember that our patients will eventually drive the direction of our healthcare system and fortunately they believe that doctors, not Congressmen, are the most capable of steering the course.”
Dr. Finkenberg earned his medical degree at University of California Los Angeles and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Harbor UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, Calif. He has also completed a spine fellowship at Johns Hopkins University Hospital in Baltimore.
