Spine Surgeon Leader to Know: Dr. Jens Chapman of UW Medicine

Jens Robert Chapman, MD, is the interim chair of the department of orthopedics and sports medicine at the University of Washington in Seattle. He has a special interest in spine surgery and performs microscopic minimally invasive procedures as well as major reconstructive spine surgeries.

Dr. Chapman also serves as the chief of the University of Washington Spine Surgery Service and HansJoerg Wyss Endowed Chair of Spine Surgery. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Chapman has research interests in the evolution of techniques and materials for spine and trauma surgery. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and Washington State Medical Association.

 

During his career, Dr. Chapman has written two books and served on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s advisory panel for several years.

 

Dr. Chapman earned his medical degree at Technische Universitaet Muenchen in Germany and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Texas, Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. His additional training includes fellowships in traumatology and spine surgery at Harborview Medical Center and the University of Washington Medical Center.
