Jeffrey McDonald, MD, is a neurosurgeon specializing in spine and neurological disorders in Idaho. Dr. McDonald operates North Idaho Neurosurgery & Spine and operates several clinical locations across Idaho and eastern Washington.

He performs surgery at Post Falls, Idaho-based Northwest Specialty Hospital — a hospital he is a founding partner in — as well as at the Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

Dr. McDonald’s practice includes simple and complex spinal surgery; injections of the epidural space and sacroiliac joints; minimally invasive microscopic neurosurgery; lumbar artificial disc; and other neurosurgical procedures. Additionally, he is among the first in the Northwest United States to use the ProDisc-L lumbar artificial disc.

Before moving his practice to Idaho in 1998, Dr. McDonald was the chief clinical neuro-oncology surgeon at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. There, he participated in the development of a functional brain-mapping research program. He was also active in spine surgery.

Dr. McDonald is a graduate of the University of Chicago School of Medicine and completed a residency in neurosurgery at the University of California in San Francisco.
