Spine Surgeon Leader to Know: Dr. J. Patrick Johnson, MD of Cedars-Sinai Spine Center

J. Patrick Johnson, MD, is a neurosurgeon at the Cedars-Sinai Spine Center in Los Angeles and director of the neurosurgery spine fellowship program. He also serves as the director of education and co-director of the spine stem cell research program at Cedars-Sinai. He previously served as director of the Institute for Spinal Disorders at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and, before then, as the director of the UCLA Comprehensive Spine Center.

During his career, Dr. Johnson has served as director of the California Association of Neurosurgeons and is a member of the North American Spine Society, American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons. He has been published in more than 500 manuscripts, abstracts and chapters. He also serves on the editorial review boards of the World Journal of Surgery, Neurosurgical Focus and The Spine Journal.

 

Dr. Johnson’s clinical interests include degenerative spinal disorders, traumatic spine and spinal cord injuries, spinal cord tumors, spinal infections, congenital spinal anomalies, spinal vascular malformations and spinal deformity disorders.

 

Dr. Johnson earned his medical degree from the Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland and completed his neurosurgical residency at the University of California in Los Angeles. He has also completed a fellowship in spine surgery at the University of Tennessee in Nashville and a fellowship at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London, England.
