Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. Harvey E. Smith of Penn Medicine

Harvey E. Smith, MD, serves as an orthopedic surgery assistant professor at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center. He is also a neurosurgery assistant professor.

He specializes in lumbar disc surgery, disc replacements and spinal fractures, among many other areas. International Journal of Spine Surgery and Journal of Orthopaedic Research, among others, have published his research.

 

A member of Association for Collaborative Spine Research, Dr. Smith is also affiliated with Lumbar Spine Research Society, North American Spine Society and Orthopaedic Research Society, among others.

 

After earning his medical degree from Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine in Hershey, Dr. Smith completed his residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. He then completed his fellowship at Marlton, N.J.-based Rothman Institute and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.
