Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. Federico Girardi of Hospital for Special Surgery

Federico P. Girardi, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon at New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery.

Dr. Girardi serves as an associate orthopedic surgery professor at Weill Cornel Medicine in New York City. He has conducted extensive clinical research on minimally invasive surgery, clinical outcomes of different spine procedures and spine imaging modalities. Dr. Girardi is currently involved in the STRIVE study, a worldwide clinical trial assessing whether an investigational vaccine given before spinal surgery can prevent infection.

He received his medical degree from the Universidad Nacional de Rosario in Argentina and underwent spine and scoliosis fellowship training at Hospital for Special Surgery. Dr. Girardi is a member of the Spine Arthroplasty Society, International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine and American Medical Association, among other professional organizations.
