Dr. Wetzel is board certified in orthopedic surgery. He specializes in spine surgery and pain management. He also has expertise in cervical herniated discs, cervical spine diseases and lumbar spinal stenosis.
“The biggest challenge for the future will be to maintain our core values as clinicians, educators and scientists,” said Dr. Wetzel said in a Becker’s Spine Review article. “Reimbursement for clinical activity is declining, the rewards for teaching diminishing and extramural funding for research shrinking. As the competition for limited resources becomes keener, we must be even more cognizant of the role of ethics in our professional conduct, especially with regard to management of conflict of interest and bias in the pursuit of support for these crucial activities.”
Dr. Wetzel earned his medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia. He completed his residency at Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, Conn., and a fellowship in spinal reconstructive surgery at Tulane University and St. Charles General Hospital in New Orleans.
