Spine Surgeon Leader to Know: Dr. Evalina Burger of The Spine Center at University of Colorado Hospital

Evalina Burger, MD, is a senior orthopedic spine surgeon at The Spine Center at University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora and associate professor of orthopedics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. She is affiliated with Scoliosis Research Society, North American Spine Society and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Dr. Burger was the first female spine surgeon to be selected for the prestigious South African Orthopaedic Society’s ABC fellowship in 2000. She specializes in adult deformity and reconstruction. She also has experience in traumatic conditions of the spine, pain management, tumors and infections. She also treats back pain, fractures and neck disorders.

Dr. Burger was nominated for the Russell-Hibbs award given by the Scoliosis Research Society to the best basic science and clinical papers presented at a SRS annual meeting. She was nominated for her research in metal properties, which led to new designs for titanium rods in scoliosis surgery for children and adults.

Dr. Burger earned her medical degree at the University of Pretoria and completed her residency at a military hospital, both in South Africa.
