Spine Surgeon Leader to Know: Dr. Daniel Sucato of Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children

Daniel J. Sucato, MD, is chief of staff at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas and also serves as director of the Sarah M. and Charles E. Seay/Martha and Pat Beard Center for Excellence in Spine Research. He is a professor in the department of orthopedic surgery at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. He is a member of the Scoliosis Research Society, North American Spine Society and Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America. He served as one of three International Traveling Fellows for the Scoliosis Research Society in 2003.

Dr. Sucato is a reviewer for the Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics and Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, and a consultant reviewer for Spine. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, and his clinical interests include discectomy, lumbar degenerative disc disease, scoliosis, spinal deformity, spinal fusion and thoracoscopy.

 

“Being a spine surgeon leader in the field today to me means first, always putting the patient first and at the center of all we do,” said Dr. Sucato in a Becker’s Spine Review article. “This leads to three things leaders provide: first, great patient care; second, important and quality research; and finally, education of residents, fellows and colleagues.”

 

Dr. Sucato earned his medical degree from State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine, where he also completed his residency in orthopedic surgery. He also completed a fellowship in pediatric orthopedics and scoliosis at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children.
