Spine Surgeon Leader to Know: Dr. Christopher DeWald of Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush

Christopher J. DeWald, MD, is an assistant professor at Rush University Medical Center and orthopedic spine surgeon with Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush. He has a special interest in spinal deformity and scoliosis correction. Throughout his career, Dr. DeWald has participated in research on topics such as fusionless scoliosis surgery.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. DeWald is a member of several professional organizations, including the Scoliosis Research Society, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and Mid America Orthopedic Association. He has been voted among the top 10 to 15 percent of Top Doctors in America by U.S. News & World Report and Castle Connolly.

 

Dr. DeWald earned his medical degree at Rush Medical College in Chicago and completed his residency at the University of Illinois Hospital and Clinics. His additional training includes a fellowship at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center/Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children in spine surgery and research. He also underwent a traveling fellowship where he studied in Germany, France and Japan.
