Dr. Ames specializes in spinal reconstructive surgery for trauma, tumors and degenerative disease. He also performs percutaneous fusion procedures. He developed and published the transpedicular approach to previously unresectable cervical and cervical thoracic tumors. His clinical interests focus on the use of pedicle subtraction osteotomy and vertebral resection to achieve optimal deformity correction.
“It really is a great feeling, particularly, to see them post-operatively and be able to tell them that their tumor is completely gone,” said Dr. Ames in a report by WCHS ABC 8 about a spine tumor removal surgery he performed.
Dr. Ames earned his medical degree at the University of California, Los Angeles. He completed his residency in neurological surgery at the University of California, San Diego and a spine fellowship at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix.
