Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. Choll Kim of Spine Institute of San Diego

Choll Kim, MD, PhD, is an orthopedic spine surgeon at the Spine Institute of San Diego, the spine center of Alvarado Hospital, as well as an associate clinical professor at University of California, San Diego. He is a founder and past-president of the Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery and chair of the MIS Committee for the International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery.

Dr. Kim’s practice focuses on a wide array of minimally invasive treatments for treating herniated discs, spinal stenosis, adult scoliosis and spondylolisthesis in the neck to the low back. He is also considered to be an expert in computer-assisted minimally invasive spine surgery and has trained specialists throughout the United States.  

 

Dr. Kim is also a qualified medical evaluator and a past voting member of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Orthopedic Devices Panel. He has authored more than 200 publications and presentations. He is certified by American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

 

Dr. Kim earned his medical degree at Harvard Medical School in Boston and completed his residency at the University of California, San Diego. He has completed a fellowship in spine surgery at Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic.
