Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. Andrew Freese of Suburban Community Hospital

Andrew Freese, MD, PhD, is a neurosurgeon at Suburban Community Hospital in East Norriton Township, Pa., and a clinical professor of neurosurgery at Temple University in Philadelphia.

Previously he served as vice chairman and associate professor of the department of neurosurgery at Philadelphia-based Thomas Jefferson University and professor and director of the Philadelphia-based Graduate Spine Center for Drexel School of Medicine among other roles.

Dr. Freese received widespread recognition for his work on gene therapy for neurological diseases, including publication of the transfer of a foreign gene into a mammalian neuron.

He earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School in Boston and his PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge.

Dr. Freese completed his surgical internship, neurosurgical residency and fellowship training at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
