Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. Alok Sharan of Westmed Spine Center

Alok Sharan, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon and co-director of the Yonkers, N.Y.-based Westmed Spine Center.

Dr. Sharan specializes in minimally invasive and cervical spine surgery. He is an early adopter of the Awake Spinal Fusion procedure, a minimally invasive spine surgery that uses regional rather than general anesthesia.

He received his medical degree from Rutgers  Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in Piscataway Township, N.J., and underwent spine surgery fellowship training at New York City-based NYU Langone Hospital for Joint Diseases. Dr. Sharan was named an AO Spine fellow and an American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Washington Health Policy fellow.  He recently completed a master’s degree in healthcare delivery science at Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H.
