Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. Harvey Smith of Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania

Harvey Smith, MD, is a spine surgeon and neurosurgery assistant professor at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

In addition, Dr. Smith is an assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and Veterans Administration Medical Center in Philadelphia.

 

Dr. Smith's clinical interests include back and neck herniated disc repair surgery, endoscopic discectomy, lumbar disc surgery, scoliosis and spine trauma.

 

Board certified in orthopedic surgery, Dr. Smith is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, Lumbar Spine Research Society, North American Spine Society and Philadelphia Spine Research Society.

 

After earning his medical degree from the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine in Hershey, Dr. Smith completed his residency at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. Dr. Smith is also fellowship trained from Philadelphia-based Rothman Institute.
