Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. James Guest of Miller School of Medicine

James Guest, MD, PhD, is a board-certified neurological surgery associate professor at Miller School of Medicine in Miami. He also serves on the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis in Miami.

His clinical expertise includes spinal cord injury, central pain, cervical radiculopathy and back pain. Dr. Guest researches cellular therapy for spinal cord injury, biology of neuroglia, impairment and restoration of hand function, mechanisms of secondary injury and hypothermia.

 

Dr. Guest serves on the International Spinal Research Trust scientific committee and on InVivo Therapeutics' scientific advisory board, among other organizations.

 

After obtaining his medical degree from the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada, he received a PhD in neuroscience from the University of Miami. He then completed a neurosurgery residency at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, and a spinal surgery fellowship at the Barrow Neurologic Institute in Phoenix.
