Michael Roh, MD, is the co-founder of Rockford (Ill.) Spine Center and a clinical assistant professor at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, North American Spine Society and has served as cabinet member and committee chair for the Scoliosis Research Society. He is affiliated with SwedishAmerican Hospital, OSF St. Anthony Medical Center and Rockford Memorial Hospital, all located in Rockford, Ill.

Dr. Roh is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. His clinical interests include cervical spine surgery, minimally invasive spine surgery, and adult and pediatric spinal deformity.  He has been a lecturer and instructor for courses in complex spinal surgery, and has served as course chairman in courses on minimally invasive spine surgery.

"One distinct area where my practice has grown is in the field of minimally invasive and outpatient spine surgery," said Dr. Roh. "Because many modern spine surgeries can be accomplished through tiny incisions with minimal pain, more and more patients are willing and able to go home on the day of surgery and recover in the comfort of their own home, which improves patient comfort and decreases healthcare costs. Furthermore, because these smaller surgeries can often be completed within 20 to 40 minutes, surgeons can run multiple operating rooms to improve efficiency and increase surgical volume without spending all day and night in the hospital."

Dr. Roh earned his medical degree at Brown University School of Medicine, Providence, R.I., and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Columbia University in New York. He also completed a spine surgery fellowship at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.
