Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. Andrew Hecht of Mount Sinai

Andrew Hecht, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon at the New York City-based Mount Sinai Health System.

Dr. Hecht is Mount Sinai Health System's chief of spine surgery. He serves as an associate professor of orthopedic and neurological surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City. Dr. Hecht received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School in Boston and underwent spine surgery fellowship training at the Emory Orthopaedics and Spine Center in Atlanta.

His clinical interests include cervical and lumbar spine surgery, the evaluation and surgical management of degenerative spine disorders, minimally invasive spine surgery, microsurgery, spine trauma and tumors. Dr. Hecht is one of only two orthopedic spine surgeons on the NFL Brain and Spine Committee, and he serves as the director of the NFL Spine Care Program for retired players at Mount Sinai.

Dr. Hecht serves as the spine surgical consultant to several New York City sports teams and directs the acute spinal cord injury program for the New York Jets. He has authored numerous textbooks and scientific articles and is a member of the North American Spine Society and Cervical Spine Research Society.
