Spine Surgeon Leader to Know: Dr. Henry Aryan of Sierra Pacific Orthopedics

Henry Aryan, MD, is a spine surgeon and neurosurgical spine specialist at the Sierra Pacific Orthopedics’ Spine Center. He is also an associate professor of neurosurgery at the University of California, San Francisco. He is a founding member of the International Neurosurgery Children’s Association (INCA) and has authored 70 peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Aryan specializes in complex spine surgery, minimally invasive spine surgery, spine artificial disc replacement, spinal radiosurgery as well as robotic-guided spine surgery. He has been engaged in clinical research in spinal fusion surgery iliac crest harvest, revision surgery following microdiscectomy and cervical arthroplasty.

“Not everyone is a candidate for spinal surgery,” wrote Dr. Aryan in Valley Health magazine’s September/October 2009 issue. “Surgery may not be ideal for patients who are of very advanced age, have weak bones, or multiple medical problems. For appropriately selected patients, surgery may be the best option for treating pain and weakness that does not respond to conservative measures.”

Dr. Aryan earned his medical degree at the University of California, Irvine. He completed his residency at the University of California, San Diego and a fellowship in complex spinal reconstruction and neurospinal oncology at the University of California, San Francisco.
