Zimmer Biomet, Lima strike a deal for Japanese market rights: 5 key notes

Lima acquired Zimmer Biomet knee and elbow technology rights for the Japanese market.

Here are five key notes:

 

1. Lima now holds the rights to Zimmer Unicompartmental High Flex Knee and Discovery Elbow System for the Japanese Market.

 

2. Lima also has the rights for these products in the European Economic Area and Switzerland from a previous acquisition.

 

3. The Japanese knee market is estimated at more than $450 million and is expected to grow in the coming years. The unicompartmental knee market is 4.5 percent of the total knee market. The elbow market is estimated to exceed $2.4 million.

 

4. The company rebranded the Zimmer Unicompartmental Knee as Physica ZUK and this recent acquisition will support the company’s Physica launch. Physica is a new total knee replacement system expected to launch next year.

 

5. The transaction still needs approval from the Japan Fair Trade Commission.
