United Surgical Partners International’s net income for the first quarter was $7.6 million, down 59.5% from the same time last year.

Total revenue was up 13 percent over 2012, but operating expenses increased 17 percent, from $90.5 million in 2012 to $106.2 million this past quarter, which ended March 31.
