Designed for orthopedic surgical procedures, the SMARTdrill uses radiation-free continuous drill-bit localization to minimize X-ray utilization. It provides real-time data on depth, torque and energy to inform intraoperative decisions and hardware selection.
Orthopedic surgeons Mike Karch, MD, and John Perry, MD, co-founded Smart Medical Devices in 2010 to update conventional surgical technology and develop solutions for common challenges in the operating room.
“I am all too familiar with the challenges and inefficiencies in the operating room due to using 50-year-old technology,” Dr. Perry said in a press release. “The SMARTdrill will improve the typical workflow by reducing the number of steps used to place surgical hardware.”
