The company also reported full year net sales of $8.3 billion in 2011, which is a 13.5 percent increase from 2010. United States sales increased by 9.4 percent to $1.4 billion and international sales showed a 14 percent increase to $808 million during the fourth quarter. The company spent $28 million in acquisition-related charges during the fourth quarter, after acquiring companies such as Orthovita and Concentric.
The company’s knee sales experienced a 2 percent decrease in sales to $341 million during the fourth quarter. Stryker’s spine business reported a 6 percent 4Q increase to $178 million and the neurotechnology business had a 126 percent increase to $199 million. Stryker hip sales remained flat, at $314 million.
