SpineGuard has been granted a U.S. patent by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for a robotically assisted ultrasound technology designed to determine the entry point and pedicle drilling trajectory from the bony surface of the spine.
The technology uses ultrasound to determine the entry point and drilling direction without using X-rays, according to an Aug. 24 press release.
The ultrasound technology is designed to complement SpineGuard’s digital surgical guidance technology, which measures the electrical conductivity of tissues locally in real time.
SpineGuard’s intellectual property portfolio includes 11 patent families and three registered trademarks in Europe, the United States, China and Japan.
