Smith & Nephew Wound Device Could Lower Healthcare Costs

Medical device manufacturer Smith & Nephew could help cut healthcare costs with its new device to promote wound healing, according to the Tampa Bay Business Journal.

The PICO device uses negative pressure to promote wound healing and has been shown to reduce post-operative infections, including in women who had a Caesarean section, according to the report.

Shorter hospital stays could save patients up to $50,000. Top executives at Smith & Nephew said their product is designed to improve patient quality of life and cut the national cost of healthcare.
