Smith & Nephew to close facility, relocate 80 jobs — 5 things to know

Smith & Nephew is closing it’s facility in York, England and relocating 80 jobs, according to a York Press report.

Here are five things to know:

 

1. The facility has been opened since 1992 as the first resident in the York Science Park, near the University of York.

 

2. Smith & Nephew is creating a new UK Commercial Hub near London, which will open in 2016. The York site is expected to close by the end of next year.

 

3. Staff members at the York facility will move to other facilities, including those in Europe and in the United States. The first roles will transition to the new Hub early next year.

 

4. While in York, Smith & Nephew worked with several research projects in collaboration with the University of York and was among the first members of Science City York.

 

5. The company has been in consultation with the affected staff members and wishes to relocate them and open flexible roles.
