Here are four takeaways:
1. Smith & Nephew’s eCAP combines the company’s hip and knee implants with its PICO Negative Pressure Wound Therapy and ACTICOAT Flex 7 Antimicrobial Barrier Dressing.
2. All of the products within the eCAP are applied post surgery to help protect the incision and provide an effective barrier to microbial contamination to help defend surgical site infections.
3. Throughout the past year, over 1,300 total joint arthroplasties have been performed under the eCAP. Smith & Nephew has seen two readmissions, resulting in a 0.14 percent rate. Readmission rates following total joint arthroplasties that are not performed under the eCAP can surge to 5.3 percent.
4. Smith & Nephew partnered with Provider PPI, a group purchasing organization, to administer its eCAP. Smith & Nephew’s program is now at 16 Provider PPI facilities across the U.S.
