Olympus finalizes FH Ortho acquisition: 4 details

Olympus acquired FH Ortho, a France-based orthopedic device company.

Four details:

1. The two companies signed a definitive agreement for the sale this summer and closed the sale Nov. 2.

2. Olympus aims to grow its presence in the minimally invasive orthopedic field with the acquisition, which will build upon its existing portfolio of products in ligament repair, foot and ankle surgery and trauma surgery.

3. In addition to the minimally invasive products, Olympus developed an ultrasound device for arthroscopic surgery that aims to increase accuracy of bone cutting.

4. Olympus also has a joint venture in Japan that distributes orthopedic products including bone substitutes and high tibial osteotomy plates and screws. Olympus will now be able to distribute FH Ortho products in Japan and through existing distribution channels worldwide.
