Here are three key points:
1. The study, which will be known as “The INSPIRE Study: InVivo Study of Probably Benefit of the Neuro-Spinal Scaffold for Safety and Neurologic Recovery in Subjects with Complete Thoracic AIS A Spinal Cord Injury,” will be done on the Neuro-Spinal Scaffold and will be the basis for HDE approval by the FDA, which would allow for commercialization of the Neuro-Spinal Scaffold.
2. The exclusive licensing agreements will be with the University of California San Diego and Jim Guest, MD, PhD. The agreement involves expanding the company’s intellectual property portfolio to research into the treatment of chronic spinal cord injuries using Bioengineered Neural Trails, which are injectable combinations of biomaterials and neural stem cells delivered using minimally invasive surgical tools and techniques as trails across the chronic injury site.
3. InVivo Therapeutics, located in Cambridge, Mass., is a research and clinic-stage biomaterials and biotechnology company with a focus on treatment of spinal cord injuries. In 2011, the company received the David S. Apple Award from the American Spinal Injury Association, and the Becker’s Healthcare Spine Device Award in 2015.
