The U.S. patent, titled “Augmented reality guidance for spinal procedures using stereoscopic optical see-through head mounted displays with cameras and 3D scanners,” was issued on June 29.

OnPoint’s AR technology superimposes virtual surgical guides and virtual spinal implants onto the patient during surgery via the surgeon’s optical headset. It has applications for manual and robot-assisted surgery.

The patent will be recognized at the Boston Invented Here ceremony in November.

At the Becker's 23rd Annual Spine, Orthopedic and Pain Management-Driven ASC + The Future of Spine Conference, taking place June 18–20 in Chicago, spine surgeons, orthopedic leaders and ASC executives will come together to explore minimally invasive techniques, ASC growth strategies and innovations shaping the future of outpatient spine care.
