MRI inventor Dr. Raymond Damadian to receive medtech innovation award: 5 highlights

Frost & Sullivan will honor MRI inventor Raymond Damadian, MD, at the 22nd Annual Medical Technologies: A Frost & Sullivan Executive MindXchange, held from March 19 to March 21, 2017, in San Diego.

Here are five highlights:

 

1. Dr. Damadian will receive the Medtech Innovation Catalyst Award, honoring his contributions to the medical device field.

 

2. He will also deliver the capstone keynote address, emphasizing the need for medical device innovation and what he believes is to come in the field.

 

3. In 1974, Dr. Damadian received the first patent for MRI. The first MRI scan of a human occurred in 1977.

 

4. Dr. Damadian serves as chairman of the Fonar (field focused nuclear magnetic resonance) Corp. in Melville, N.Y. Fonar created the first commercial MRI device in 1980.

 

5. Former President Ronald Reagan awarded Dr. Damadian with the National Medal of Technology in 1988.
