Medtronic shares ventilation device design — 3 things to know

Medtronic is publicly sharing its ventilation design specifications to accelerate global ventilator production efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a March 30 announcement.

Three things to know:

1. Design requirements, manufacturing documents, schematics, and product and service manuals for Medtronic’s Puritan Bennett 560 are available online.

2. The PB 560 is a compact, lightweight and portable ventilator sold in 35 countries. It was introduced in 2010.

3. Medtronic’s decision to publicize design specifications was made based on recent FDA guidance.
