Here are five things to know:
]1. The company reported a $0.38 cash dividend per ordinary share, a 25 percent increase over the same period last year.
2. The quarterly declaration is consistent with dividend announcements Medtronic made in June.
3. Medtronic has increased the quarterly dividend payment over the past 38 consecutive years. The company is a constituent of the S&P 500 Dividend Aristocrats index.
4. The dividend is payable on Jan. 15, 2016 to shareholders of record as of the close of business on Dec. 24, 2015.
5. A portion of the dividend may be treated for U.S. tax purposes as a return capital. But the company expects that over time its dividend will be treated completely as a distribution of earnings for U.S. tax purposes.
