Three things to know:
1. PUMA System is a new approach to syndesmotic fixation used in the treatment of orthopedic injuries. It aims to provide stable fixation without the postoperative loss of fixation.
2. The spring-like feature provides compression without the need to overtighten.
3. PUMA received FDA 510(k) approval in early 2018 and commercially launched in the U.S. in November 2018.
“The novel PUMA System brings a technology to address current shortcomings in syndesmotic fixation,” said Kent Ellington, MD, orthopedic surgeon at Charlotte, N.C.-based OrthoCarolina Foot and Ankle Institute. “This fixation technique provides what we need — ease of use, maintenance of reduction, and dynamic fixation without creep.”
