Currently, NextAR assists surgeons in precisely removing bone and cartilage and in positioning the knee implant.
The surgical system is supported by Vuzix Blade Smart Glasses, which allow surgeons to “see” into the anatomy using augmented reality in real time while looking directly at the patient instead of a screen.
NextAR is designed to improve surgical accuracy and reduce the cost per case by eliminating robotic arms or other OR equipment operators that require a lot of space in the operating room, according to a May 7 news release.
The system also includes artificial intelligence and machine learning to improve preoperative planning.
